Walt is a professional biologist who makes his home on Deer Isle, Maine, and has had over 30 years experience boating, backpacking, camping and mountaineering.
He is a Registered Maine Guide, a licensed Master by the U.S. Coast Guard, and is a Maine Commercial Boat Operator.

Walt is an Island Steward and Monitor Skipper for the Maine Island Trail Association and the Island Heritage Trust.
He has been nationally certified as a Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician and as a Water Rescue Technician. He also serves as an EMT-I with the local ambulance service.
