Walt is a professional biologist who makes his home on Deer Isle, Maine, and has had over 30 years experience boating, backpacking, camping and mountaineering.
He is a Registered Maine Guide, a licensed 50 ton Master by the U.S. Coast Guard, and a Maine Commercial Boat Operator.

Walt is an Island Steward and Monitor Skipper for the Maine Island Trail Association and the Island Heritage Trust. He has served as board chairman of the Penobscot East Resource Center whose mission is to secure a future for fishing communities in Eastern Maine.
He has been nationally certified as a Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician and as a Water Rescue Technician. He also serves as an EMT-I with the local ambulance service.
